Rhinochimaera

Image: NOAA Okeanos Explorer Program, Gulf of Mexico 2012 Expedition
Who ever heard of a spook
With quite so much of a snoot?
It swims in the dark
It's called a Ghost Shark
And its face looks like an elf's boot

Image: NOAA Okeanos Explorer Program, Gulf of Mexico 2012 Expedition
That schnoz isn't there for nought
It's useful when food is sought
It's chock-full of nerves
To sense electrical verves
Of prey once hidden, now caught

We leave our wraith in repose
Tranquil in ghastly abode
In darkness engrossed
Give a toast to the ghost
Who boasts by far the most nose

it looks like something scientists would make up. :)

Like much of nature, that's a lot weirder than most scientists could come up with. Also that nose is really cute. :)

Looks like it's one of those wonderful things that makes you wonder whether it was imaginable or not!
