Bug-eyed Bug

Image: budak
It's a bug! With bugs for eyes!

This ridiculous creature is a true bug (Hemipteran) and belongs, apparently, to the Miridae family, also known as the Plant Bugs.

A whole bunch of Mirids are ant mimics at some point in their life, but they only mimic one ant at a time. This thing looks as if it has a pair of ant abdomens sticking out of its face!

They're actually grotesquely inflated antennae. GROTESQUELY inflated. The eyes have even shifted from their normal position on the sides of the head to the middle. Without this shift, it looks like they'd be completely blinded by their own antennae!

Talk about having bags under your eyes!

How is a bug with butts on its face not awesome?

Any answer I give will be pure speculation, grasping at straws even. If we can get the best minds on the case, perhaps we may muster an answer within a few generations.

I doubt it, though!
